
Sports is a global phenomenon. The emergence of sports law as a separate field of study in law is an indication of its significance in our society. This course seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of sports law in contemporary sports context by tracing out historical evolution of sports law. First unit of the course deals with sociology of sports highlighting social, political and cultural issues connected with sports. It also emphasizes the role of law in regulating modern day sports. The unit also covers the emergence of Sports as a Law. Second unit provides insights into the application of tort law into the sporting events.The interplay between sports and criminal law is covered in third unit. The fourth Unit deals with the various labour issues, antitrust issues, contractual terms and gender discrimination in Sports.The Fifth Unit deals with the Anti Doping Regulations. Last unit of the course provides for dispute resolution mechanism at the national and international level. The course makes use of international and national legal instruments, extensive case laws developed in US, EU and India. At the end of the course students should be in a position to identify the regulatory model for Indian sports industry.
