Indian Academy of Law & India (IALM) invited Honorable Shri K.G. Balakrishnan, Former Chief Justice of India, Supreme Court of India as Guest lecturer to address IALM students, staff and faculty. A down-to-earth and humble Judge, he mesmerized his hosts with his knowledge, wisdom and wit. Honorable Judge spoke about 45 minutes and addressed several topics — arbitration procedures, recent amendments to Arbitration Act, his international experience of law and as Chief Justice of India. He also provided valuable career advice for law students and young lawyers.

Honorable Konakuppakatil Gopinathan Balakrishnan is the first judge from state of Kerela to reach the highest position in Indian judiciary as Chief Justice of India. He remained Chief Justice for nearly three years which has been one of the longest in the history of Supreme Court of India. After retiring as Chief Justice of India, he was appointed as Chairman of Human Rights Commission of India and he held the post till recently.
Shri Balakrishnan started his career as an advocate. He pleaded both criminal and civil cases in the Ernakulam court. He was later appointed as a Munsiff in the Kerala Judicial Services in 1973. He later resigned from the services and resumed practice as an advocate in the Kerala High Court. In 1985, he was appointed as a judge of the Kerala High Court, and was transferred to the Gujarat High Court in 1997. He became the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court in 1998, and in 1999, he assumed charge as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Judicature at Madras.
